Interesting article on patient role in innovation..

Always best to start gently on a morning with a spot of reading…  I’ve just come across a really interesting article in science-business, a media company focused on European innovation, about the increasing power of patients, particularly through the medical research charities they support, in driving innovation and development of new treatments for conditions.

Patients take control of innovation takes a look at the role of patients in actively investing in research through medical research charities, driving more research – it gives an example of the Alzheimer’s Society investing to drive the development of promising drugs into clinical trials – patient’s donating tissue, getting involved in the development of research projects (it echoes the phrase used in the Health white paper “nothing about us without us”) etc. It notes that charities are focused more and more on driving promising research towards the development of treatments.
