David Willetts – Minister for Universities and Science – has guest posted on Cancer Research UK’s science update blog. He runs through the government’s commitment to supporting healthcare and life sciences, laying out some of the initiatives that are underway including the Life Sciences Strategy which was launched last December.

He mentions the Crick Institute – supported through a collaboration of the medical research council, universities, charities and industry – and the value of charity investment in medical research in the UK – over £1 billion each year.

He also outlines what he sees as the big challenges for life sciences:
